Treatment Room Nurses
Our experienced nursing staff are available to deal with minor injuries, dressings, stitch removal, travel and other immunisations, ear syringing and blood pressure checks. They also assist at minor operations, cervical smears and perform blood tests and ECGs at your doctor’s request.
Practice Manager
Should you have any problems or queries, please contact the Practice Manager in the first instance.
Receptionists
These are probably the first members of the practice team you will meet or talk to. They may ask for brief details of your illness. These will be treated confidentially: they have been trained to make these inquiries on our behalf. Our receptionist are here to help you, but their job is very demanding and they are often very busy, so your patience is appreciated.
Practice Pharmacists
We currently have three Practice Pharmacists who can also issue scripts and who are available for any queries with your medication.
District Nurses
The teams of district nurses attached to the practice provide an invaluable service of nursing care in the home. You may be referred to them by your doctor or hospital.
Health Visitors
The health visitors assist your doctor to carry out child health checks. They give immunisations to babies as well as advice on child growth and development. They are experts on infant feeding and carry out many screening procedures on children under five. Joint child development clinics are held by your doctor and health visitor. Baby Vaccination clinic takes place on a Wednesday morning and this is by appointment only. If your child is registered with the practice you will automatically receive an appointment to attend one of the clinics. If, however, these times do not suit, you may make a surgery appointment with your usual doctor.
Midwives
The midwife is a specially trained nurse who is trained to look after pregnant patients, to assist them in delivery of the baby and general care and help on breast feeding, once the baby is born.
You will meet your midwife either at the hospital clinic or GP surgery and she will assist with your care. The district midwives are based in the local maternity hospital but work in the community. The district midwife can offer personalised care and, indeed, is available for a home delivery, if desired. All new mothers in the practice are visited daily by the district midwife after discharge from hospital and until the baby is 10 days old.
